Sigma Blade Mixers with Cored Blades
Cored blades in sigma blade mixers are a critical requirement for many applications. Because sigma mixer blades are such a large mass of steel, the blades can become a troublesome heat sink and remain cold for many hours while attempting to heat the product through jacket mixing bowl. Cold blades can cause the product to stick to the overlapping sigma blades and not mix well.
Since heat-transfer from the jacket through the product and to the sigma blades would be very inefficient, the blades are gunned drilled and rotary unions fitted to both ends to allow the introduction of a heating medium including hot water, steam or oil.
Sigma blade mixers are also used for high-intensity mixing and compounding of solids including rubber, carbon, powder metals and ceramics.
